CUDA Path Tracer
Monte Carlo path tracing on the GPU, with a BVH and OptiX denoising
CUDA, GLSL, C++ · Sep – Oct 2025
- 3–160× frame rate from the BVH in complex scenes
- +24–67% from stream compaction
- +6–24% from Russian roulette
A physically-based Monte Carlo path tracer in CUDA, rendering complex 3D scenes with custom models and environment maps.
- BSDF shading kernel with global illumination, multiple importance sampling, anti-aliasing, and sub-surface scattering, across PBR materials with albedo and texture maps
- Asset pipeline: glTF 2.0 loading through tinygltf, and denoising with NVIDIA OptiX
- GPU optimization: a BVH for 3×–160× the frame rate in complex scenes, plus stream compaction (+24–67%), Russian roulette (+6–24%), and material sorting (+5%)
